Vaudevillains NYB

Every Day is New Year's Day

About

In 2007 on New Year’s Day, while trolling Two Street for the few Mummers we could find on a rained out parade day, our small group of friends envisioned that we might actually become mummers ourselves. With a little digging and perseverance we’ve discovered that this was an attainable goal, and became determined to make it happen. Thanks to the hard work, creativity, and generous cooperation of Space 1026 and extended family, this dream quickly became a reality.

Our brigade, Vaudevillains NYB, was welcomed with open arms by South Philadelphia’s Murray Comic Club, and VNYB too welcome all those with the spirit of Mumming inside them to join them with any aspect of this process—great or small—and best of all, in the parade on New Year’s Day!

We made our debut in the 2008 parade with their theme Mummers in the Global Warming Induced Perpetual Summer. In 2009, VNYB achieved 5th place in the Comic Division of the Mummers Parade with their theme Mummers in a Post-Apocalyptic Nuclear Winter. We also had the great honor of performing with Gogol Bordello on New Year’s Eve at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. In 2010 we brought Philly Phood Phantasia to Broad Street with another 5th place win.

How You Can Help:

Although being a Mummer is nearly free, materials for our float and costumes cost several thousand dollars. With a little help from both new and old friends we hope to raise the necessary funds to continue our efforts for 2010.

How can you help? Every dollar truly makes a difference. If you would like to make a donation, please contact us.
